I cannot overemphaisis the lack of expertise in the industry. It is pathethic and it is mandated, or virtually mandated, by the State of California and the Contractor's State License Board. Hey, do us all a favor and email this to them. According to the license board if you pass the test for the licence for a C20 (warm air heating and cooling) you are an expert for life. Suddenly this test makes you an expert for life. Just to let you know, this so called test, is suppose to take two hours to perform, or at least that is the time limit. It took me 20 mintues to pass this test and I walked away amazed at how many in that building were struggling with it. PATHETIC, hardely a test of skills and knowledge. I felt that it was more an excersise to give money to the state to keep the unemployable ignorant employed.
I tried to champion a bill that required all contractors to take continued education classes each year that they were employed in the industry. It involved 18 hours of educatoin a year and included such things as safety meetings, association meetings and update classes for code and new equipment on the market. I felt totally betrayed when the licence board, the very governing agency for contractors, said no and said that there isn't any money in the budget for ensuring that contractors kept abreast of the industry and the changes that have been occurring.
The very agency that is suppose to keep you safe by making sure your contractor knows what they are doing is more interested in tax revenues and keeping things status quo than actually doing their job.
The lesson here is buyer beware. If you want a company that will install and service the air conditioning systems they install, give us call...we'll be there for you. On they other hand, if you are leaving your home in 90 days and only care if your system is cooling this weekend, don't call me. Hig h Efficiency – Low Utility Bills
The majority of consumers buying high efficiency equipment are not getting what they are bargaining for. To achieve the stated efficiency rates for the equipment everything has to be perfect. The number one waste of money for the consumer is ducting. Ducting is responsible for about 35% of every lost btu. Most ducting systems are undersized for air conditioning and this under sizing is costly you money. Whenever you have your system looked at, have the ducting looked at as well. If your service technician doesn’t look into the attic or crawl to exam your ducting, they are not doing their job and that inaction, that laziness, is costing you money.

Humidity Control – Comfort Perfection
Mold and mildew growth occurs at higher humidity levels so we want to keep that under control for your health. At lower humidity levels, in the winter, you can get dry, cracked itchy skin, sore throats and allergy asthma symptoms tend to be acerbated. Zo ne Control – Room by Room
All systems that we install that have accessible attic or crawl spaces where the ducting is located are equipped with manual dampeners. Thos systems that are special, or rather those homes with special needs, can be equipped with state of the art electronic zoning.
This electronic zoning has each and every thermostat, two, three, four or more thermostats that can control the operations of the furnace and the air conditioner. These thermostats then go on and control the airflow into those individual rooms according to the preset temperature in the room. You can have one room at 75 degrees and the neighboring room at 70 degrees. The choice is up to you. This system can be added to most of the installation that we perform. Yes, but the main difference in the quality, cost effectiveness, comfort and durability of equipment has nothing to do with the brand. It has everything to do with the way the units are installed and maintained. Scams & Scoundrels
The latest scam is one where the homeowners are promised a 16 SEER – 13 EER air conditioning system at a bargain price. A price too good to be true, and that is the result. A number of dealers have pieced together mixed branded systems that claim to get far more efficiency that the labeling of the outdoor unit. Some are even claiming that 14 Series labeled units are 16 SEER by using a super fantastic evaporator coil. This cannot be true. The data has been falsified, but the ARI (American Refrigeration Institute) number are real, but will nearly always be pulled from the market after 30 days.
What does this mean to you? It means that if you have purchased one of these “too wonderful to be true” systems then the chances that you are going to receive your $1500 tax incentive are slim to none and you will be paying more for electricity than you were told. Will you notice the increased electrical bill? Probably not, because the system that was just removed was so far from efficient it will seem like a windfall in savings, but in reality you will have paid for a system and not received the system you paid for. That means utility bills that are higher for you every month you operate your system than you should be paying.
You don’t need a permit or nobody gets permits or if you get a permit it will raise your taxes. Permits are required by law and this is in writing in the Uniform Mechanical Code, The California Mechanical Code, The National Electrical Code, the Uniform Plumbing Code and the California Plumbing Code. If your HVAC service technician tells you permits are not required please show them the door as they are lying to you.
“It will raise your taxes”. The replacing of heating and cooling equipment is a maintenance items and is not subject to tax increases. If you add on air conditioning then you may indeed get a very small tax increase. This is double edged sword for the “Monarchy of the Socialist State of California” as just as soon as they try to up your tax bill, calling this a home improvement, you can apply for a tax reduction because the value of homes have gone down so much. I am not a tax professional and you really should ask a tax professional this type of question, but a couple dollars a year is worth the added comfort and convenience a quality home heating, cooling and air purifying system brings.
